Nahan, June 23,
The court today sent Rakesh, a mathematics teacher accused of molesting and harassing over two dozen girl students at PM Adarsh Senior Secondary School in Rajgarh block, Sirmaur district, to three-day police remand. The accused was produced in court by Rajgarh police amid tight security.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sirmaur, NS Negi, confirmed the remand order. “The accused has been sent to police custody for three days. We will interrogate him thoroughly and examine his previous postings to determine if there have been similar complaints against him elsewhere,” the SP told media.
The incident, which came to light on Saturday, triggered outrage among parents and local residents after 24 girl students of Class 12 submitted written complaints accusing the teacher of using obscene language and misbehaving with them during school hours.
Following the uproar, a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused at Rajgarh Police Station. The teacher was taken into custody the same day.
According to sources in Rajgarh, the accused teacher’s wife is also employed as a teacher in a government school, and the couple have two daughters. The revelations have deepened public shock and raised urgent questions about safeguarding measures in schools.
While the school administration has refrained from making an official statement, the Deputy Director of Higher Education has ordered an internal probe. “Student safety is the department’s top priority,” the official said.
Local residents continue to demand exemplary action. “Such acts are a breach of trust. Teachers must uphold dignity, not violate it,” said one parent outside the court.
Police have assured a fair and transparent investigation, with statements from all complainants being recorded under proper procedure. The probe continues.
