Rampur school Music teacher resigns after attack

Shimla, Feb 18,
In a incident highlights the deteriorating safety of teachers in schools, a music teacher and an office clerk at DAV Public School in Rampur, Shimla district, were allegedly assaulted by the father and grandfather of a student. The incident, occurred on February 11, has raised concerns about safety of educators.
According to reports, the altercation began when a child accidentally hit his head on a desk during lunch break. The music teacher, upon noticing the child crying in class, comforted him and continued with the lesson, as there were no visible injuries. However, when the child’s family arrived to pick him up, the situation escalated. The child’s father and grandfather, upon hearing the child cry, allegedly attacked the music teacher in the principal’s office. When the office clerk intervened to stop the violence, he too was assaulted.
Despite the availability of CCTV footage capturing the incident, no formal complaint was filed by the school management.
Reports suggest that pressure from influential political figures and local leaders led to the matter being swept under the rug. This inaction has left the teaching staff feeling vulnerable and disrespected. The music teacher, who endured both physical and mental trauma, has since resigned, citing a loss of dignity and the school administration’s failure to take legal action.
This incident is not just an isolated case but a reflection of a larger issue: the growing trend of parental aggression in schools. Teachers, who play a pivotal role in shaping young minds, are increasingly facing threats to safety and professional integrity. The lack of support from school administrations further exacerbates the problem, leaving educators helpless.
The incident in Rampur calls for immediate action. Schools must ensure the safety of their staff and establish clear protocols. Additionally, parents must be made aware of the consequences of taking matters into their own hands.
Education is a collaborative effort, and mutual respect between parents, teachers, and school administrations is essential for creating a safe and conducive learning environment. It is high time that such incidents are taken seriously, and those responsible are held accountable to prevent further erosion of trust in our educational institutions.

Most of the school administrations these days are prioritizing profit and satisfaction of parents over the well-being of teachers. Instead of addressing teachers’ concerns the administrators frequently side with parents, appeasing their demands. This profit-driven mentality is leading to policies that are prioritizing enrollment numbers and public image. There is no supportive work environment for teachers. They are left feeling undervalued, overworked, and powerless. A system that should be valuing their expertise is rather disregarding it in favor of financial gain.
