Shimla, July 8,
The Jammu and Kashmir Administration reported that work on the landslide-hit Kishtwar-Paddar Road is progressing rapidly, ensuring the resumption of essential supplies from Himachal Pradesh. The disruption occurred due to a massive landslide at Nagseni, halting vehicular movement and affecting essential supplies to the Paddar Sub Division.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Devansh Yadav, stated that although the alternate route from Himachal Pradesh remained open, it was disrupted due to the flash flood washing away the Singhrah Bridge-GREF in the Sohal area. Yadav personally trekked to the landslide site at Nagseni to oversee the repair efforts, which were completed within three hours under the supervision of SDM Paddar Amit Kumar, Tehsildar Atholi, DDC Paddar Arpan Singh Rana, and other officials.
The restored road connectivity from Himachal Pradesh to the Paddar area has enabled the resumption of essential supplies loaded in light vehicles. Reportedly, Yadav mentioned that additional excavators have been mobilized from hydroelectric projects to clear the road at Nagseni. The restoration work, ongoing day and night, is expected to take 2-3 days with the combined efforts of GREF personnel and hydroelectric project teams under district administration supervision.
The collaboration between Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir in maintaining connectivity highlights the strategic importance of these routes. Projects like the Manali-Leh NH-3, along with new bypasses and tunnels, are under construction to facilitate movement for the Indian Armed Forces and tourists in this landlocked strategic region. These efforts are crucial for maintaining supply chains and ensuring the region’s accessibility.
Despite the challenges, the administration assures the public that the supply chain for essential items will not be affected. They request patience from the general public until the full restoration of the Kishtwar-Paddar Road is achieved, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining vital links between the regions.
