The Silk Route Ultra Trail 2024 saw Rigzin Gyurmeth emerge as the victor, setting a new record for completion time. The event, organized by the Himalayan Expedition, took place amidst the ancient and rugged terrains of the Silk Route from Narkanda to Sarahan.
On April 14, 2024, in Sarahan, Shimla, the fourth edition of THE Silk Route Ultra Trail concluded with Rigzin Gyurmeth’s remarkable performance. Gyurmeth completed the 100 km trail in a record-breaking time of 19 hours and 28 minutes, showcasing unparalleled resilience and determination.
THE Silk Route Ultra Trail, known for its extreme challenges, featured various categories, including 55km, 33km, and 15km, with approximately 160 participants from around the world, including school children in the under 18 category.
The 100 km flagship race, the SRUT 2024, witnessed Gyurmeth as the sole finisher, highlighting his endurance and tenacity in conquering the arduous course. Other notable winners included Milan Halder, Naveen Jogta, Kapil Dev, Stanzin Wangchuk, Yash Kumar Raj, Shyam Singh, Ankur Kumar, Sumit Palariya, and Parth Joshi in their respective categories.
The event commenced with a ceremonial flag-off on April 12 by Justice Birender Thakur and Mr. Abhishek Verma, ADC Shimla, at Narkanda. The race day began on April 13 at 5:30 AM, challenging participants with its historic Hindustan Tibet road, rugged trails, and untarred paths.
The Silk Route Ultra Trail concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony on April 14 in Sarahan. Chief guest Commandant Tenzin Sonam (BSF) and Brigadier Narender (Indian Army) honored the participants, recognizing their extraordinary achievements and unwavering spirits.
This iconic trail, tracing the footsteps of ancient merchants and explorers, not only tests the physical limits of participants but also their mental fortitude. The Himalayan Expedition’s Silk Route Ultra Trail is more than a race; it’s a journey that promotes adventure sports and highlights the rich cultural and historical significance of the Silk Route.
