Shimla, April 14
Last midnight, an earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale struck Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh, as confirmed by the Indian Meteorological Department.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located at approximately 31.6 degrees North latitude and 78.5 degrees East longitude.
Residents in the region reported feeling the tremor around 23:55 hrs on Saturday, although there have been no reports of significant damage or injuries.
Currently, many high reaches of the district are enveloped in a thick blanket of snowfall, with fresh snow reported in the area over the last 24 hours.
Kinnaur, known for its seismic activity, remains under the vigilant watch of scientists and seismologists.
This marks the third major tremor in the state this month, following 3.5 and 5.3 magnitude earthquakes felt in Lahaul Spiti and Chamba districts.
