Shimla/Kullu, Dec 1,
The District Administration of Kullu has officially closed Rohtang Pass for tourists due to hazardous road conditions. The decision was made after a recent inspection revealed the formation of black ice on the road, making it unsafe for vehicular traffic.
The closure, which will remain in effect until the end of the winter season, aims to prioritize public safety. The online portal for obtaining permits to visit the pass has also been disabled.
The police post at Marhi has been relocated to Gulaba to better manage traffic and ensure safety during the closure period.
Rohtang Pass, located at an altitude of 13,050 feet above sea level, is a popular tourist destination known for its scenic beauty. However, the extreme winter conditions, characterized by freezing temperatures, pose significant challenges to road safety.
The administration urges tourists to adhere to the closure order and avoid attempting to visit the pass until conditions improve. Further updates regarding the reopening will be provided by the district authorities.
