Shimla, June 23
Ahead of the state Assembly Election and amidst the President polls, the political temperature is on hype as the Congress party has filed a complaint before the Speaker of Himachal Pradesh Assembly, Vipin Singh Parmar Singh, seeking disqualification of the two MLAs who had recently joined the BJP party, despite being elected as Independent candidates in the 2017 Vidhan Sabha election.
Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri today submitted the complaints to the Speaker seeking disqualification of members of Assembly Prakash Rana from Jogindernagar and Hoshiyar Singh from Dehra Vidhan sabha.
Later speaking to a media person at Congress Office, Agnihotri said that he had filed the complaints as per the constitutional requirement to seek disqualification as the two MLAs elected by the people of their assemblies as Independent. He said both had breached trust as they publically joined BJP recently, and the ruling party also issued a press release. ”Since it is apparent in the Anti-Defection Act that no Independent MLA could join any other political parties as it amounts to a breach of trust of public mandate,” said Agnihotri, the Congress legislative party leader in the state assembly.
He said that the Congress party seeks immediate action against both the MLAs as they are members of BJP legislative party in the house. He urged the speaker to act on Congress complaints as this law is clear against such members. Mukesh Agnihotri also said that the Monsoon Session of the state Assembly is expected to be held in August or September, but the party wants an early decision from the speaker on the issue so that it could take next action on the matter.
Political commentators say that BJP has tried to lure the Independent into their folds, eyeing the Presidential Election. It is worthwhile to mention that one of the MLA of BJP, Anil Sharma, is facing asylum as he was also not allowed to attend the party legislative meeting after his son fought election against BJP official Lok Sabha candidate
