Shimla Police arrests alleged cross-border drug trafficker wanted in multiple NDPS cases
Shimla, June 2,
In what is being seen as a major success in the fight against organized narcotics trafficking, Shimla Police have arrested an alleged interstate drug supplier with a long criminal history, including involvement in an attempt to smuggle a massive consignment of heroin from across the India-Pakistan border.
The accused, Samar Singh alias Tiger (32), was arrested by a Shimla Police team from Kharar in Punjab during investigations into a drug trafficking case registered at Dhali Police Station.
Police had earlier arrested two alleged peddlers and recovered heroin and methamphetamine from their possession.
Subsequent interrogation and technical analysis led investigators to Samar, who is suspected to be a key link in a wider narcotics supply network operating across state boundaries.
Police records reveal that Samar Singh is facing at least five criminal cases under the NDPS Act and other laws in Punjab and Rajasthan. Investigators claim that in one of the most serious cases, registered at Shrikaranpur Police Station in Rajasthan in 2018, he allegedly attempted to smuggle 20 kilograms of heroin from Pakistan into India, highlighting his suspected links to cross-border narcotics networks.
Apart from the Rajasthan case, Samar has been booked in multiple NDPS cases in Punjab involving recoveries of commercial quantities of heroin and opium. In another case registered by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, he is accused of facilitating the transfer of drug proceeds through bank accounts linked to a narcotics network allegedly operating from inside a jail.
He has also figured in cases involving heroin recoveries and the seizure of a firearm and live cartridges.

In the present case, Shimla Police recovered 131 grams of heroin, 27 grams of methamphetamine and Rs 60,400 in cash from the accused. Combined recoveries in the case now stand at nearly 196 grams of heroin and 47 grams of methamphetamine.
Police officials said the arrest demonstrates their focus on dismantling supply chains and targeting major traffickers rather than merely apprehending street-level peddlers. The investigation is continuing to identify other members of the network and its interstate links.
