In a major crackdown on the growing narcotics network in Himachal Pradesh, Shimla Police on Friday invoked the stringent provisions of the Preventive detention against trio of illicit Traffickers under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act after booking them in multiple drug trafficking cases. They were put under long detention to stop repeated involvement in the illicit drug trade.
Confirming the action, Shimla Superintendent of Police Garauv said the accused Sachin Shyam alias Satchu, Deepak Rajata and Shubham Kashyap — had repeatedly figured in NDPS cases and were allegedly active in drug trafficking for several years. Acting on detention orders approved by the Himachal Pradesh Government under Section 3(1) of the PIT-NDPS Act, police teams detained the trio from Shimla and Rohru areas on May 8.

Police said Sachin Shyam alias Satchu, 33, a resident of Kholighat in Nankhari tehsil, has been booked in nearly half a dozen NDPS cases registered between 2012 and 2026 at New Shimla, Dhali, Nankhari and Kumarsain police stations.
Deepak Rajata, 30, of Rohru subdivision, and Shubham Kashyap, 28, of Sunni area, were also allegedly involved in repeated drug trafficking activities and faced multiple NDPS cases in recent years.The operation was jointly carried out by teams of Police Station Nankhari, Police Station Rohru, SIU Shimla and DCRB Shimla.
The accused are being lodged in Adarsh Jail Kanda as part of the statutory detention process.SP Gaurav Singh said the PIT-NDPS Act was being implemented strictly in Shimla district to prevent habitual offenders from returning to the narcotics trade and to protect society from the growing menace of drugs.
Himachal Pradesh government led by Chief Minister has intensified preventive action under the PIT-NDPS Act amid increasing concern over the spread of narcotics among the youth in the hill state.
