Several alleged members of the “Shahi Mahatma Gang” were arrested in a recent crackdown by the Shimla district police in Himachal Pradesh. The gang is suspected of being involved in drug trafficking across the district.
The arrests stem from an ongoing investigation into a case filed at Kotkhai police station in April, where 468 grams of heroin linked to the gang were seized. Through financial and technical investigations, the police identified and apprehended eight individuals believed to be key players in the gang’s distribution network.
The arrested individuals include Altamas Makrani, Navdeep Negi, Sandeep Sharma, Ranush Puharta, Khushi Ram Thakur, Someshwar, Hanish Ranta, and Puruskrit Verma, all from different parts of Shimla district. Another suspect, Sahil Mehta, was arrested earlier in October.
The gang’s leader, “Shahi Mahatma,” was arrested earlier, and the police are currently pursuing 26 more individuals linked to the network.
The arrests are part of the state police’s “Operation Clean – The Path of Drug-Free Shimla” initiative, which aims to eradicate drug trafficking in the region. Shimla district police have registered 210 cases and arrested 462 alleged drug peddlers so far this year.
The police’s focus on dismantling the drug supply chain and addressing the root causes of drug abuse reflects the state’s commitment to combating drug-related crimes and protecting its communities.
