A young girl belonged to Sirmour district ended her life, police sources informed.
The incident unfolded on September 23, 2024, when the girl a resident of Banuta village, Tehsil Kamarau in Sirmaur district, was found hanging from a tree in the Potterhill forest near Shimla.
Brother of deceased Dinesh Kumar, had filed missing report about her at the Summerhill police post just a day earlier on September 22. Despite an extensive search, the girl could not be located. At around 7:50 am on September 23, Dinesh Kumar informed the police that his sister had ended her life by hanging herself.
Sub-Inspector, along with a police team, immediately reached the scene, where they recovered the body. Deceased was hanging from a tree in the forest.
The body was then sent to IGMC Shimla, where a post-mortem was conducted by the Department of Forensic Medicine. After the post-mortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to her brother for the final rites.
Though final outcome can be revealed after a complete investigation preliminary enquiry revealed that the deceased may have been suffering from mental health issues for some time, which likely contributed to her tragic decision to take her own life.
The incident has left the family and local community in shock, with many expressing their sorrow over the loss.
