The South West Monsoon has revived in many parts of Himachal Pradesh, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall across the state in the past 24 hours.
Dharamshala, home to the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, recorded around 68.2 mm of rain. Shimla, the state capital, and the Jubbarhatti airport each reported 27.4 mm. The adverse weather conditions led to disruptions in flights on the Delhi to Shimla route.
In the same period, Bharari witnessed the highest rainfall with 87 mm, followed by Bhoranj with 85 mm, and Dhaulakuan with 62.5 mm. Other notable rainfall measurements include Katula at 56.3 mm, Sarkaghat at 53.6 mm, and Gaghas at 48 mm. Additionally, Kufri recorded 35.4 mm, Bilaspur 34.8 mm, and Sundernagar 32 mm.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert, predicting continued moderate to heavy rainfall at several locations. This forecast is expected to persist into the next day. After facing a rainfall deficit of approximately 40% in the first month of the monsoon season, the recent rains have been a welcome change.
Temperatures remained relatively stable with no significant fluctuations. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at Kukumseri at 10.1°C, while Bhuntar experienced the highest maximum temperature at 37.1°C.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds, were reported in Sundernagar and Shimla, with wind speeds reaching 61 km/h in Reckong Peo.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates widespread showers, with heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms likely at isolated locations across the state.
The IMD advises the public to remain cautious and take necessary precautions during this period of intense rainfall and adverse weather conditions.
