Special Judge (NDPS) Ghumarwin, Mohit Bansal, has convicted Saurabh Phool of Shimla and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh. In case the fine is not paid, the court has ordered an additional one-year imprisonment.
The case pertains to January 30, 2024, when a police team from Ghumarwin Police Station, led by Inspector Karam Chand, intercepted an Alto car during traffic checking on the Baloh four-lane stretch towards Bhaged. During inspection, an envelope was found near the gear lever beside the driver’s seat. On opening it, the police recovered 1.216 kg of hashish.
A case was registered under Section 20 of the NDPS Act at Ghumarwin Police Station. The investigation was carried out by Inspector/SHO Karam Singh, after which the challan was presented in the court.
The prosecution was represented by Sub-District Attorney Abhay Gupta. After considering the evidence and arguments, the court pronounced the sentence, an official spokesperson said.
