Shimla, Dec 30,
Himachal Pradesh students in government schools are set to get access to a nationally recognised learning ecosystem, as the Council of Ministers on Tuesday cleared a major education infrastructure upgrade to shift 100 government schools to the CBSE curriculum in the first phase. The move aims to reduce the widening gap between private and government school education standards and strengthen learning outcomes in core subjects.
Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, along with PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh, said after the Cabinet meeting that the decision reflects the state government’s commitment to quality education and modern academic practices. “The Cabinet reiterated that 100 government schools have already been shortlisted for adoption of the CBSE curriculum in the first phase,” they stated.
To meet CBSE norms and ensure subject competency, the Cabinet approved the creation of 800 new posts — 400 Mathematics teachers and 400 English teachers — exclusively for CBSE-affiliated schools. In a step to make classrooms inclusive and holistic, every CBSE school will also have a Special Educator and a Yoga Teacher, reinforcing both academic support and mental–physical well-being.
The state has also sanctioned Rs 100 crore for immediate infrastructure strengthening, including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, sanitation, and other mandatory facilities. All deficiencies must be removed before CBSE classes begin from March 2026, the Cabinet directed.
Chauhan added that a separate staffing pattern has been approved for these schools, ensuring clarity in qualifications and deployment. For secure and smooth functioning, one Chowkidar and three Multi-Task Workers (MTWs) will be placed in each CBSE school.
Officials said the transformation strategy will be implemented in phases, based on readiness and compliance with CBSE parameters. The government believes the shift will gradually elevate academic standards, expand future opportunities for students, and bring government schools closer to the facilities and competitiveness associated with private institutions.
