In a relief for former IG Zahoor Haider Zaidi, the Sukhu government today revoked his suspension. He had been under suspension in the custodial death matter of a suspect in the infamous Gudiya rape and murder case. He has now been asked to report at Police Headquarters Shimla. The posting orders likely to be issued separately.
On January 15, 2020, Zaidi was suspended by the former government for pressurizing former Shimla SP Soumya Sambasivan to change her statement. Sambasivan moved an application against Zaidi in the court, stating that Zaidi had pressurized her to change statement. On this, the special CBI court had issued a notice to the DGP. Taking cognizance of this, the court had directed to take action according to the law and the state government suspended Zaidi.
Zaid remained in jail for 562 days. Before this, Zahoor Haider Zaidi was in Kanda Jail for 582 days. On July 6, 2017, Nepali Suraj, who was arrested on charges of gang rape and murder of 10th class student Gudiya in Kotkhai, died in Kotkhai police station on the night of July 18-19.
In this case 8 policemen including former IG Zaidi, former SP Shimla DWD Negi, Theog’s then DSP Manoj Joshi, SHO Rajendra Singh of Kotkhai police station were arrested. On March 23, 2018, Zaidi went to the Supreme Court after not getting bail in the lower court. On his petition, the top court of the country granted him bail.
