State pays Up 64Cr, Himachal Bhawan saved from the Hammer

In a development, the Himachal Pradesh government today deposited ₹64 crore with the High Court registry to prevent the attachment of Himachal Bhawan. This step was taken in response to a court order related to a pending arbitration case with M/s. Moser Baer company over the Seli hydropower project.
Advocate General Anup Rattan confirmed the deposit, stating that it fulfills the Single Bench order of Justice Ajay Mohan Goel. The remaining interest amount will be paid once the state receives the funds.
On November 18, the High Court had attached Himachal Bhawan due to the state’s non-compliance with a previous order by Justice Sandeep Sharma, which mandated the payment of ₹64 crore along with 7% interest in 2023.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu acknowledged the court’s order. Legal experts believe that the partial compliance with the court order might prevent further actions.
Noteworthy that the High Court had ordered the attachment of Himachal Bhawan to recover ₹150 crore owed to Seli Hydro Electric Power Company. The court has also directed an inquiry into the delay in payments, with potential financial consequences for the responsible officials. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for December 6, 2024.
