Sudhir Sharma rejects Vigilance FIR, calls it political vendetta

BJP MLA from Dharamshala Sudhir Sharma on Friday strongly refuted the FIR registered against him by the Himachal Pradesh State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB) in a disproportionate assets case, describing the action as politically motivated and asserting that he would emerge clean after a fair investigation.
In a statement issued after the Vigilance Bureau registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Sharma categorically denied all allegations, maintaining that they were “false, baseless and devoid of factual or legal merit.”

The legislator alleged that the FIR had been lodged under political pressure and accused the Congress government of misusing the Vigilance Bureau to target political opponents. He claimed the action was initiated at the behest of the state government and the Chief Minister as part of a campaign of political vendetta intended to tarnish his public image.
Sharma said he had always maintained transparency in his public and personal affairs and had disclosed his assets and income before all competent statutory authorities, including the Election Commission of India and the Income Tax Department, as required under law.
Emphasising that registration of an FIR only marks the beginning of an investigation and is not proof of guilt, the BJP MLA said he had neither acquired nor possessed any asset through illegal means.
He asserted that every property and financial transaction attributed to him had a lawful and verifiable source and expressed confidence that the investigation would establish his innocence.
He also questioned the basis of the Vigilance Bureau’s findings, alleging that the conclusions were drawn from assumptions, provisional calculations and an incomplete appreciation of the available material.
Sharma said he reserved the right to challenge the legality and validity of the proceedings before the appropriate judicial forum.
Rejecting any suggestion that seeking judicial intervention amounted to obstructing the investigation, Sharma said every citizen had the constitutional right to avail legal remedies. He reiterated that he would extend full cooperation to the investigating agency while vigorously defending his rights through due process of law.
Expressing faith in the Constitution, the judiciary and the rule of law, Sharma said he was confident that the truth would ultimately prevail and that he would be fully vindicated.
Appealing for restraint, the BJP leader urged the media and the public not to draw premature conclusions on the basis of untested allegations and to allow the legal process to take its course.
The statement comes a day after the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau registered an FIR against Sharma, alleging possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Bureau has stated that the case is under investigation and that further action will be taken based on evidence collected during the probe.
