Swift GRP action prevents Army jawan’s suicide attempt
Shimla, Jan 10
In a commendable act, employees of the Himachal Pradesh Police, stationed at Government Railway Police Post Una (GRP Una), successfully intervened to prevent an armed forces jawan from attempting suicide by jumping in front of a train on Thursday (Jan 4).
Upon receiving information from Shimla-based media outlets, it was revealed that a person named S Prabhu intended to take his own life due to being deceived by a woman. Additional Superintendent of Police Narveer Singh Rathore TTR Shimla was promptly notified by the media houses.
Responding swiftly, Additional Superintendent of Police Narveer Singh Rathore communicated with GRP police station Kangra and GRP post Una, providing appropriate instructions to the police personnel involved. An efficient plan was devised by tracking the location of S Prabhu’s mobile phone, and the GRP post Una police team was strategically positioned in the engine (locomotive) cabin of the approaching train.
As the train, enroute from Daulatpur to Una, slowed down, the police personnel observed a person near the train tracks. They swiftly disembarked and restrained the individual, later identified as S. Prabhu, a resident of Tamil Nadu and an absconding Indian Army soldier, intending to end his life.
Under sections 107 and 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the GRP Una police took action, ensuring Prabhu’s safety. He was presented before SDM on January 5th and subsequently handed over to the Indian Army. Investigations revealed that Prabhu, a Havildar in the Indian Army, had deserted his duty after a vacation in 2022.
The GRP police personnel, led by Assistant Sub Inspector Ajay Airi, and constables Anand, Raman Sharma, Kamal Dev, Rahul, and Anil, played a crucial role in this successful intervention. Gurudev Chand Sharma, DIG TTR, commended the GRP police for their swift and commendable action, which undoubtedly saved S Prabhu’s life.
