Shimla, Dec 25,
Life in Himachal Pradesh is severely disrupted due to a fresh spell of inclement weather. Temperatures have plummeted by 2-3 degrees below normal, and many roads are blocked by snowfall.
Tourist destinations like Kufri and Narkanda received fresh snowfall, while Kalpa in Kinnaur recorded 1.8 cm of snow. Keylong in Lahaul Spiti saw 1 cm of snowfall.
Shimla recorded 8.7 mm of rain, while other areas like Bhuntar, Seobagh, Mandi, and Jubbarhati airport also received rainfall. High-altitude regions experienced light to moderate snowfall.
Tabo in Lahaul Spiti recorded the lowest minimum temperature at -10.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Kukumsri at -8 degrees and Kalpa at -4 degrees. Manali’s minimum temperature was -0.3 degrees, while Narkanda recorded -2 degrees and Shimla 2 degrees.
The Met Office has forecast mainly dry weather in the state, but many snowbound roads remain slippery and dangerous due to ice formation.
A total of 226 major roads and three national highways are currently blocked by snow, with the highest number of road closures in Shimla (123). Power supply is also disrupted in 173 distribution transformer regions.
The cold wave is posing challenges to people, particularly with late examinations scheduled for some schools and the Public Service Commission.
