A tragic bus accident occurred on the Shwad-Nigan road in Ani, Himachal Pradesh, today, claiming three lives, including the driver, and injuring 15 others. The incident took place around 11:30 AM when a private bus traveling from Karsog to Ani veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Shakailad. At the time of the accident, 42 passengers were on board.
Deputy Commissioner of Kullu, Torul S. Ravish, confirmed the fatalities and reported that rescue operations commenced promptly after the Ani administration received an alert. Emergency response teams, including ambulances and police personnel, reached the accident site swiftly to assist the victims.
The injured passengers were initially rushed to Ani Hospital for treatment. Due to the severity of their injuries, 10 patients were later referred to Shimla and five to Rampur for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, the driver and two other passengers lost their lives at the scene.
To assist the victims, the administration announced an immediate relief payment of ₹5,000 for each injured individual, while the families of the deceased will receive ₹25,000. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. The Deputy Commissioner urged drivers to remain vigilant while navigating the region’s treacherous roads, especially during winter when road conditions are particularly hazardous.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri extended their condolences to the bereaved families. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is committed to providing all possible assistance to those affected. He also directed the district administration to ensure top-notch medical care for the injured and wished them a speedy recovery.
