A incident occurred at the Beed flying range under Baijnath subdivision of Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh, as a female paraglider from Noida lost her life while indulging in the sport.
Ritu Chopra, the deceased, identified as the spouse of former Indian Air Force Wing Commander Ashutosh Chopra, was engaged in paragliding on Sunday at Beed site in Baijnath when the mishap unfolded. Despite their experience, tragedy struck as Ritu suddenly lost control of her craft, resulting in a fatal fall.
Reports indicate that the couple, who had been regular participants in paragliding activities at Beed, arrived at the site last Friday, continuing their tradition of enjoying the sport together. However, the joyous occasion turned tragic when Ritu’s paraglider spiraled out of control shortly after takeoff, leading to the fatal accident.
Witnessing his wife’s fall, Wing Commander Ashutosh Chopra wasted no time in alerting authorities, promptly seeking assistance from Baijnath Police and his colleagues in the Indian Air Force. Despite efforts to save her, Ritu was declared brought dead upon arrival at Baijnath Hospital.
The sorrowful turn of events prompted swift action, with the Indian Air Force deploying a helicopter to transport Ritu’s body back to Noida, where the couple resided. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with adventure sports, even for seasoned enthusiasts like the Chopras.
As investigations into the accident continue, authorities urge caution and adherence to safety protocols for all participants in adventure sports, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and vigilance to prevent such tragedies in the future.
