Baddi/Shimla, Dec 29,
Mobile users in Baddi may be experiencing uneven service quality across the industrial hub, as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released findings from its latest Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in November 2025.
The assessment — spanning 180 km of city routes, six hotspot locations and a 2.3 km walk test — measured real-world performance of 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks across neighbourhoods and public spaces including Panjhera, Bhanglan, Sitalpur, Barotiwala, Kishan Pura and institutional hubs like Baddi University, Maurice Square Mall and the main bus stand.
According to TRAI, the tests were carried out from November 11–13 under the supervision of its Delhi Regional Office to evaluate how telecom operators are performing on crucial voice and data service indicators.
The data shows that Reliance Jio achieved the highest Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR) at 99.73%, followed by BSNL (98.64%), Airtel (98.11%) and Vodafone Idea (96.82%) in auto-selection mode.
However, Jio and Vodafone Idea also recorded the lowest drop call rates during the test window — 0.55% and 0.27% respectively — whereas BSNL witnessed the highest call drops at 6.34%, indicating persistent network reliability issues for users on its network.
The tests monitored parameters such as call setup time, speech quality, video streaming delays, download/upload speeds, latency, jitter and packet loss.
TRAI stated that the measurements reflect “actual consumer experience in busy urban and pedestrian environments,” particularly in industrial and commercial clusters that witness heavy mobile data consumption.
The authority has forwarded operator-wise results to all telecom service providers for necessary corrective actions in service-deficient pockets.
The regulator emphasised that the drive test is part of its continuous monitoring to ensure better Quality of Service (QoS) compliance in high-growth regions like Baddi, where network load has surged with expanding industrial activities and migrant population.
