Two convicted, one absconder arrested in three NDPS cases in Shimla
Shimla, July 24,
Shimla Police has secured convictions in two separate narcotics cases while also arresting an absconding accused wanted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, continuing its drive against drug trafficking in the district.
In the first case, the Court of the Special Judge-I, Shimla, on July 23 convicted Mohan Lal (42), a resident of Kupvi in Shimla district, in connection with the recovery of 8 kg of charas. The case was registered at Police Station Kupvi on April 3, 2024, under Sections 20 and 25 of the NDPS Act. The court sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh. In default of payment, he will undergo an additional three years of simple imprisonment.
Police said the conviction followed a scientific investigation supported by forensic evidence and effective prosecution, enabling the court to hold the accused guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

In another case, the Special Judge, Shimla, on July 24 convicted Sajan (26), a resident of Chidgaon, in a case registered at Police Station West Shimla on May 28, 2023. Police had recovered 20 grams of heroin (chitta) from his possession. The court sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000. Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
Meanwhile, Police Station Sadar arrested Kishan Chauhan (34), a resident of Karsog in Mandi district, on the basis of a non-bailable warrant issued by the District and Sessions Court, Shimla. He is an accused in an NDPS case registered on October 27, 2023, involving the recovery of 6 grams of heroin. Police said the accused had failed to appear before the court during trial, prompting the issuance of the warrant. He was traced and arrested from Khadoni village in Karsog and will be produced before the court.

Shimla Police said it remains committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and will continue to pursue offenders through strict investigation, prosecution and execution of court warrants.
