Shimla, July 15
Two Class XII students of Auckland House School, Shimla, have been shortlisted for the prestigious John Locke Institute 2026 Global Essay Prize, earning international recognition in one of the world’s most competitive academic essay competitions.
Pritha Doegar has been shortlisted in the Politics category, while Jiya Rampal Saini has secured a place in the Economics category.
Their selection places them among a small group of young scholars from across the world whose essays have been recognised for originality, analytical depth and quality of argument.
According to the school, the John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize is regarded as one of the most distinguished international competitions for school students. The 2026 edition attracted 100,227 essay submissions from participants representing 183 countries. After a rigorous evaluation process, only the top 17.5 per cent of entries were shortlisted.
The achievement is considered a significant milestone as the competition tests participants on their ability to think independently, analyse complex issues and present well-reasoned arguments on subjects ranging from politics and economics to philosophy, history and law.
Congratulating the students, Auckland House School Principal Smaraki Samantaroy said the accomplishment reflected the school’s emphasis on intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and academic excellence. She said Pritha and Jiya had demonstrated exceptional dedication and scholarly ability by securing recognition in one of the world’s most challenging essay competitions.
“It is a matter of immense pride for the entire Auckland House School community. We congratulate both students, their parents and mentors on this outstanding achievement and wish them success in the next stage of the competition,” she said.
The school said the recognition highlights its commitment to providing students with opportunities to engage with global academic challenges and develop the skills needed to excel on international platforms.
