Shimla, Jan 23,
The Himachal Vigilance Department has intensified its probe into the alleged ₹20 crore loan fraud linked to Kangra Cooperative Bank (KCC Bank). Yudh Chand Bains, the primary accused, has been summoned for questioning today, marking the fifth consecutive interrogation session. The department is set to present a status report on the case before the Himachal Pradesh High Court on January 24.
An FIR in this matter was filed by the Vigilance Department on January 8. Since then, Bains has undergone rigorous questioning, including extensive sessions lasting hours. On Thursday alone, he faced six hours of interrogation, with the process slated to continue tomorrow. Except for a pause on Sunday, January 19, the questioning has been ongoing since January 18.
Bains, who claims he was cleared in earlier investigations, now faces renewed scrutiny as the department examines his bank transactions, GST records, PAN details, and the distribution of loan funds. Sources indicate that investigators have unearthed significant details about the utilization of funds in the associated project, although official statements remain unavailable.
Adding to the controversy, Bains has alleged that the investigation is politically motivated, accusing Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and his associates of orchestrating a vendetta against him. He has reportedly filed complaints with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), potentially broadening the case’s implications.
Currently, Bains is protected under interim bail granted by the High Court, valid until January 24. However, the Vigilance Department is expected to challenge this relief in court. Legal experts suggest that Bains’ cooperation during the extensive interrogation could influence the court’s decision regarding his bail status.
The status report due on January 24 is expected to reveal critical findings from the investigation. Its contents could significantly impact the course of this contentious case, especially if the Vigilance succeeds in presenting compelling evidence to support its allegations.
This high-profile case has captured widespread attention. The forthcoming status report is likely to shape public perception and possibly redefine the narrative surrounding this complex legal battle.
