Vinay Kumar of Renukaji (reserved) Vidhansabha was unanimously elected as Deputy Speaker of the HP Legislative assembly on Tuesday. After the lunch break, three proposals by Harshvardhan Chauhan, Chander Kumar, and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur were moved to elect Vinay Kumar as the Deputy Speaker of the HP Legislative assembly. The proposals were also seconded by Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, Dr. Dhani Ram Shandil, and Hans Raj in the house.
Later, Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition, and Parliamentary Affairs Ministers, along with the Deputy Chief Minister, also took the Deputy Speaker to his dais in the house. Addressing the assembly after his election as Deputy Speaker, Kumar said that it is a great privilege to be elevated to this post in the August house. He mentioned that Renukaji remained a bastion of the Congress party, and before the election, Kumar was a three-time MLA from Renukaji, the erstwhile assembly of the first Chief Minister, Dr. YS Parmar.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, and Deputy Speaker greeted Kumar.
This post had been vacant for the last year. Sukhu mentioned that the party high command also supported Kumar for his choice as Deputy Speaker.
Vinay Kumar is the son of Late Dr. Prem Singh (Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary, H.P. Govt.), born on 12th March 1978, at Maina Bagh, Distt. Sirmour. He completed his 10+2, is married to Smt. Seema Bhushan, and has one son and one daughter. He is an agriculturist.
He served as the General Secretary, Block Congress Committee, Renuka; Non-official Director, H.P. Agricultural Rural Development Bank Ltd.; and working President, HPCC since June 2022.
Vinay Kumar was elected to the State Legislative Assembly in December 2012 and re-elected in December 2017. He served as Chief Parliamentary Secretary from 25th December 2012 to 20th December 2017, Chairman of the Renuka Development Board from 2013 to 2017, and a Member of the Welfare, Library, Research & Reference, and Human Development Committees from 2018 to 2022.
He was elected for the third consecutive term in December 2022 and nominated as Chairman of the Public Administration Committee. Additionally, he is a Member of the Estimates Committee.
