19 preventive arrest of drug traffickers in HP

In a major crackdown against drug trafficking in Himachal Pradesh, a joint team of the Himachal Pradesh Police and the Drug Department on Thursday conducted a massive raid at Salasar Complex in Baddi and seized more than 2.23 lakh banned and psychotropic tablets. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to official information, the raid was carried out on May 8 as part of the state-wide intensified campaign against narcotics and illegal pharmaceutical trade. During the operation, the joint team recovered a total of 2,23,084 intoxicating tablets, including 1,61,920 tablets of Tramadol Hydrochloride and 61,164 tablets of Alprazolam marketed under the brand name Atrox-0.5.
The police identified the arrested accused as Shiv Poojan Prajapati, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and Anurag Shukla, a resident of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly involved in illegal storage and trafficking of restricted pharmaceutical drugs without possessing any valid licence or permit. The seized contraband has been taken into police custody and a case under the provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Baddi police station. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended supply network of the recovered drugs.

Officials also stated that a large quantity of other suspicious and allegedly illegal medicines was recovered during the raid. Separate legal proceedings under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act are being initiated by the Drug Department in this regard.
Himachal Pradesh Police reiterated its commitment to continue strict and sustained action against drug traffickers and illegal pharmaceutical operators involved in destroying the future of the youth through narcotics trade.
