60K tourist evacuated from flood affected areas : CM
Shimla, July 13
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected Kullu and Lahaul Spiti districts. According to him, a total of 60,000 tourists who were stranded in these districts have been successfully evacuated.
Sukhu, who has been stationed in Kullu for the past three days, has been overseeing the rescue operations. The heavy rainfall on July 9 and 10 resulted in flash floods, causing tourists to become trapped in their vehicles and hospitality units. The roads were washed away, and heavy boulders, mud, and landslides further hindered their rescue. Despite restoration work being hampered by continuous monsoon rains and swollen rivers, efforts have been made to evacuate the stranded tourists. Unfortunately, the disaster has claimed the lives of 88 people, injured 100 others, and left many thousands stranded and marooned.
