Shimla
The BJP has announced a series of marches across Himachal Pradesh ahead of the November 1 Congress-led INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, raising the prospect of competing political mobilisation and traffic congestion in the state capital.
Himachal Pradesh has assumed particular importance for the BJP as it is the only Congress-ruled state in the region. With thousands of Congress and INDIA bloc supporters expected to travel from the state to Delhi for the rally, the BJP’s parallel campaign could intensify political activity in Shimla and other towns during the same period.
The BJP will organise marches under its “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” campaign in all four parliamentary constituencies. Dharamshala will host the first march on October 30, followed by Shimla on November 1, while Hamirpur and Mandi will hold marches on November 4.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the Shimla march as the chief guest, alongside BJP state president Rajiv Bindal, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and Hamirpur MP Anurag Thakur.
The BJP has defended the marches as a campaign to create awareness about electoral roll verification and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Bindal has accused the Congress of misleading the public over the exercise and questioned its objections to voter verification.

The Congress and INDIA bloc parties, meanwhile, have accused the BJP of undermining democratic institutions through alleged manipulation of electoral rolls. Their November 1 rally is intended to protest against the SIR process and alleged voter deletions.
The simultaneous mobilisation could put pressure on traffic and public movement in Shimla, particularly if large gatherings and outbound travel coincide. Any disruption, however, will depend on the scale of participation and traffic arrangements made by the administration.
It also worthwhile to mention that announcing counter rally to defend Modi government or Chief Election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar also also raised questions on seriousness of BJP towards problems of Businessmen or commuters ahead of Diwali. To choke state traffic by announcing counter rally could not be ignored this fact that ruling party in the country is doing politics with its might.
