Himachal CM felicitates IGP Bimal Gupta for leading anti-Chitta campaign
Shimla, Oct 31,
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday felicitated Inspector General of Police Bimal Gupta, IPS, in recognition of his leadership and contribution to Himachal Pradesh’s statewide campaign against chitta and synthetic drugs.
Gupta, who is currently serving as IGP, SV&ACB/AP&T, has played a outstanding role in taking the anti-drug campaign beyond conventional policing through large-scale walkathons, public awareness programmes and community mobilisation. His initiatives have focused particularly on involving young people, civil society organisations and local communities in the fight against drug abuse.
The campaign, which seeks to make Himachal Pradesh a Nasha Mukt Himachal, has increasingly sought to transform anti-drug awareness from an institutional exercise into a mass public movement, with youth participation and community engagement at its core.
The Chief Minister’s felicitation recognises Gupta’s sustained efforts in mobilising people against the growing menace of chitta, which has emerged as a major social and law-and-order challenge for the state.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Ashok Tewari thanked the Chief Minister for his leadership and encouragement and congratulated Gupta and the entire Himachal Police team for their contribution to the campaign.
“I congratulate IGP Shri Bimal Gupta, IPS, and the entire Himachal Police team for making the anti-Chitta campaign a statewide people’s movement. Together, we remain committed to protecting our youth and building a Drug-Free Himachal Pradesh,” Tewari said.
A Shimla resident and alumnus of St Edward’s School, Shimla, Bimal Gupta has built a long career in the Himachal Pradesh Police, rising through the State Police Service before joining the IPS. He holds a postgraduate degree in Police Administration and is part of the 2006 Himachal Pradesh cadre, having formally joined the IPS on July 19, 2013. During his career, he has served as SP, State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau; DIG, Crime, CID, Principal of the Police Training College at Daroh in Kangra, and IGP, Welfare and Administration.
He was subsequently posted as IGP of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. His varied assignments have given him experience in crime investigation, police training, administration and vigilance.
