HPU Vice Chancellor applies to relinquish post
Shimla,, May 9
In a recent development S P Bansal, the Vice Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University, has applied to the Governor of Himachal Pradesh for relinquishing his position due to his busy schedule discharging duties as Vice Chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh at Dharmshala. Bansal replaced the former Vice Chancellor Prof Sikander Kumar from this post, who was elected as a Rajya Sabha member on the BJP ticket.
However, besides that the VC has recorded his reasons in the request submitted to the Governor, it seems that the recent change in the State government may have put pressure on Bansal to relinquish his position. There are reports that the new state government may not be comfortable with the present VC of HPU, which may have influenced Bansal’s decision to step down.

The issue was raised in the recent session of the state assembly, with several members demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

The appointment of faculty members is a crucial issue for the education sector, and any violation of norms can have serious consequences for the quality of education. Moreover, the new state government has a responsibility to ensure that appointments are made according to UGC norms and that there is transparency in the selection process.
Now, the resignation of the Vice Chancellor of HPU has added a new dimension to the issue, and it will be interesting to see how the situation develops in the coming days.
