471 questions filed for Himachal legislative assembly winter session: Speaker

Notices for a total of 471 questions have been received, out of which information has been received on 348 starred questions (286 online and 62 offline) and 123 unstarred questions (109 online and 14 offline), which have been sent to the government for further action as per rules. In a media meet at Dharamshala on Monday, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania stated that the fourth session of the fourteenth Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh will begin on December 19, 2023, at 11 am. The session will continue until December 23 and a total of 5 sittings will be conducted.

He mentioned that, apart from questions, 4 notices under Rule 62, 1 notice under Rule 63, 10 notices under Rule 101, and 12 notices under Rule 130, which also includes 2 postponed notices from the previous session, and 01 notice under Rule 324, have been received from the members. These notices have been sent to the government for further action, he informed.
Pathania said that the information related to the questions received from the members mainly concerns the pathetic condition of roads, DPRs of approved roads, the upgrading of schools, colleges, health institutions, etc., in the state, and the filling up of vacant posts in various departments on an outsourced basis. Information related to tourism, parks, the supply of drinking water, prevention of increasing drug use among youth, investor mitigation, Pong Dam displaced people, and solar energy and the transportation system has also been sought by members.
He mentioned that in the last monsoon session, the proceedings of the House lasted for 36 hours and 38 minutes, and a total of 739 pieces of information were received through questions from members. The productivity of that session was 106 percent. He expressed expectations of even higher productivity for this season.
To ensure that the session continues without any delay, the speaker called an all-party meeting attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mohal Lal Brakta, MLA Sukh Ram Chaudhary, MLA KL Thakur, and MLA Hoshayar Singh.
He requested members of the ruling and opposition to raise only issues related to public interest in the House. While respecting the traditions and dignity of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, members are advised to stay within the ambit of the rules and discuss issues related to public interest. He urged them to have meaningful discussions in the House and provide constructive support in conducting the session.
