In a flurry of political activity, 18 contenders have stepped into the electoral arena and have filed their nominations for both Parliamentary and Vidhan Sabha by-polls in the State, slated for June 1st, 2024.
For Lok Sabha Polls from Shimla Parliamentary Constituency (PC) Vinod Sultanpuri (42) of the Indian National Congress (INC) has thrown his hat into the ring, hailing from VPO Sultanpur, Tehsil and district Solan.
Suresh Kumar Kashyap (53) representing the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to contest from Paplahan village, PO: Gagal Shikore, Tehsil Pachhad. Also Reena (39), spouse of Kuldeep Kumar, has filed her papers as a covering candidate for the BJP, representing Shimla PC from VPO: Shaya Chabron, Tehsil Rajgarh.
At Hamirpur PC, Anurag Singh Thakur (50), the BJP candidate and son of Prem Kumar Dhumal, has entered the fray from VPO: Sameerpur, Tehsil Bamsan, Tauni Devi. Varinder Singh Kanwar (60) will stand as a covering candidate for Anurag Thakur from the BJP, hailing from Vill: Ghera Kothi, PO: Thana Kalan, Tehsil Bangana, District Una.
Along, Jagdeep Kumar (38) of the Rashtriya Devbhoomi Party (RDP) is contesting from village Dadrana, PO: Swarghat, Tehsil Naina Devi, district Bilaspur.
In Kangra PC, Rekha Rani (41) is the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate, representing Kangra PC from ward No 2, Village: Lahru, PO: Noura, Tehsil Dheera, district Kangra. Vijay Kumar (60) stands as a covering candidate for the BSP, hailing from village Natehar, PO: Kangra.
Besides, Sanjeev Guleria (64) of the All India Forward Bloc Party has filed his nomination from VPO: Suliali, The Nurpur, District Kangra.
Also, Kehar Singh (53) is running independently, representing Kangaihan village PO: Bardam, Alampur district Kangra.
Nominations filed for Bye-polls; Sujanpur Assembly Constituency (AC), Ravinder Singh Dogra (47) of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has filed his papers from Vill: Karsoh, PO: Gwardu, Tehsil Tauni Devi.
At Gagret AC, Rakesh Kalia (55) is contesting from ward 3, VPO: Bhanjal, Shankar Nagar, Tehsil Ghanari, Una, representing the INC. Renu Kalia (47), spouse of Rakesh Kalia, stands as a covering candidate for the INC.
In Kutlehar, Chanchal Singh (77) is running independently from VPO: Chalola, tehsil and district Una.
Manohar Lal (60) representing the BJP is contesting from VPO: Samoor Kalan, tehsil and district Una.
At Lahaul-Spiti Dr. Ram Lal Markanda (58) is running independently from VPO: Udaipur.
Notably, no nominations were filed for Mandi PC and for Barsar and Dharamshala AC by-polls, leaving these constituencies poised for further political maneuvering.
