Shimla, June 21
A total of 19 candidates, including the wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, have entered the race for the upcoming by-elections in three Assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh. The final day for filing nominations saw 13 submissions for the Dehra, Hamirpur, and Nalagarh seats.
A spokesperson from the Election Department confirmed the filings and provided details about the candidates. In Dehra, five candidates submitted their nominations. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is represented by Hoshiyar Singh, with Bir Singh as a covering candidate. The Indian National Congress (INC) has fielded Kamlesh, wife of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, with Hari Om as the covering candidate. Independent candidate Advocate Sanjay Sharma also joined the race.
In Hamirpur, three candidates filed nominations. Dr. Pushpinder Verma will represent the INC, while independents Pradeep Kumar and Nand Lal Sharma have also entered the contest.
Nalagarh saw five candidates submitting their nominations. Kishori Lal Sharma is running for the Swabhiman Party, and independents Uday Kumar Singh, Gurnam Singh, Harpreet Singh, and Vijay Singh are also in the fray.
The by-elections are scheduled for July 10, 2024. Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place on June 24, and candidates can withdraw their nominations on June 25 and 26.
