Shimla, Sept 7,
The Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner has deferred the hearing of a case involving the alleged illegal construction of a mosque in Sanjouli, Shimla, until October 5. The court has directed both parties to submit affidavits regarding the matter.
After issuing seven notices to the respondents, including the Imam of the Sanjauli mosque, without receiving a response, the Shimla MC issued a challan in the local court. The Himachal Pradesh Wakf Board has also joined the case, claiming that the mosque was built on its land and should remain under its control.
The respondents’ counsel argued that the construction did not exceed the permissible limit of two and a half stories and that the matter had been pending with the Shimla MC for that period.
