Shimla, Sept 7,
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that the state government will approach the Supreme Court to secure the Shanan Hydropower Project for the state. The move comes after the lease period for the 110 MW project in Jogindernagar, currently held by Punjab, has ended on March 2 this year.
Sukhu, who chaired a meeting with the state’s energy department officials, emphasized the need to present Himachal Pradesh’s rightful claims in court to ensure maximum benefits for the people of the state. The Chief Minister has also directed officials to strongly pressurize the central and Punjab governments to hand over the project to Himachal Pradesh.
The government will accelerate efforts to secure Himachal Pradesh’s rightful share in the Bhakra Beas Management Board, resolved the CM in the meeting.
Noteworthy that in March this year the Union government wrote to Himachal to not proceed with take over proceeding of  Shanan Power project following a suite pending by Punjab Government in the Supreme court. Whereafter Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu who also holds the portfolio of Power had said that the State Government would not deter from taking back the possession of the project from Punjab government.Â
The lease for Shanan project situated in Jogindernagar tehsil of district Mandi expired on March 2, 2024. Noteworthy that the 110 MW project has an annual turnover of about Rs 200 Crore.
Also in the meeting the government resolved to issue a notice to JSW Company for non-compliance with the implementation agreement for the 1,045 MW Kadcham-Wangtoo Hydropower Project.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027 and the richest and happiest state in the country by 2032.
