Police Inspector Baldev Kumar, a native of Rampur in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, has been honoured with the prestigious Police Medal for Meritorious Service by the President of India on the occasion of Republic Day 2025. Currently serving as an Inspector in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at its Head Office in New Delhi, Kumar has achieved significant milestones during his 22-year-long career in law enforcement.
Hailing from the village of Sudha in Gram Panchayat Sarpara, Tehsil Rampur Bushahr, Baldev Kumar is the son of Kayat Ram Kapoor and Dilawari Kapoor. He began his journey in 2002 as a constable with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). Through competitive exams, he rose to the rank of sub-inspector in 2007 and inspector in 2010. In 2023, he achieved the position of Subedar Major.
During his tenure with the ITBP, Kumar served on the India-China border, covering the challenging terrains of Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh. His notable contributions include serving as an instructor at the ITBP Academy for three years and participating in the United Nations Peace Mission in Congo in 2014-15. His dedication to duty has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Police Special Duty Medal, United Nations Medal, Outstanding Service Medal, 75th Anniversary of Independence Medal, and three Director General’s Insignia. He was also awarded the Best Indoor Trainee during his sub-inspector training.
Inspector Baldev Kumar is among the 31 officers and officials of the CBI recognized for their exemplary service this year. The awards include six President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 25 Police Medals for Meritorious Service. Alongside Kumar, other notable CBI officials have been awarded for their contributions in various capacities.
Kumar’s unwavering commitment and remarkable service have brought pride to his home state of Himachal Pradesh. His achievement not only highlights his personal dedication but also underscores the excellence of Himachali officers in national service. As he receives this prestigious honor, Inspector Baldev Kumar continues to inspire young aspirants from his state to contribute to the nation with the same dedication and integrity.
The award ceremony took place at the CBI Headquarters in New Delhi, located at CGO Complex, Lodhi Road.
