Bomb threats disrupt Court proceedings across Himachal; Multiple district courts evacuated

Court proceedings were thrown into disarray across Himachal Pradesh after multiple district courts received bomb threats through an anonymous email. The targeted courts include Shimla (Chakkar), Sirmaur (Nahan), and Kullu, prompting immediate evacuations of judges, lawyers, and staff as precautionary measures.
Former Bar Association President Virendra Pal in Nahan confirmed the premises were cleared for safety and said authorities maintained strict perimeter control during the search.
Police teams swiftly sealed off the premises, initiating intensive search operations. Bomb disposal units and sniffer dogs were deployed, and by the time of reporting, no explosive device had been found. However, officials confirmed that all standard protocols were being followed in treating the threat seriously.
At the Chakkar court complex in Shimla, judicial officers and advocates exited the building and gathered outside amid visible security deployment. Similar actions were reported in the other districts, where court activities were brought to a halt during the inspection.
The threat, sent via email from an unidentified source, is under active investigation by law enforcement and cybercrime units.
The email containing the threats included a controversial document and warning of an explosive detonation, allegedly by a group claiming to be associated with Anna University alumni. Police have termed it a hoax but are continuing to trace the origin of the email.
This latest episode follows a recent pattern of similar hoax threats in the state. Notably, the Himachal Pradesh High Court had previously received a bomb threat, which was later found to be baseless. The frequency of such incidents is drawing concern over the effectiveness of security mechanisms and the challenge of tracking anonymous digital threats.
Despite advancements in surveillance and cyber forensis, security agencies have yet to trace the source of these recurring emails, raising critical questions about cybersecurity gaps and coordination among intelligence bodies.
Authorities have appealed for calm and assured the public that investigations are underway at the highest levels. Police have intensified digital tracking efforts in coordination with national agencies.
Court operations in the affected areas resumed gradually under heightened security, even as the overall atmosphere remained tense.
