New Delhi, July 23,
BJP National President and Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Tuesday met with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss infrastructure restoration and development in disaster-hit regions of Himachal Pradesh. The meeting was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan.
Following the meeting, Nadda said that Union Minister Gadkari has assured all possible support from the Central Government for the speedy repair and reconstruction of roads, bridges, and tunnels in Himachal Pradesh. “There will be no shortfall in assistance to Himachal Pradesh. Repair work in tragedy-hit areas will be undertaken on a war footing,” Nadda stated, adding that the application of advanced technology in road construction and infrastructure will benefit the state significantly.
He emphasized that the repair and expansion of rural infrastructure—particularly roads and connectivity—will accelerate development in remote areas. He further announced that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 201 crore in the first phase under the Material Component of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA). This allocation is expected to boost the construction of village roads, drains, and other infrastructure at the panchayat level.
Referring to previous financial assistance, Nadda noted that Himachal Pradesh has already received over Rs 5,000 crore from the Centre through the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
Recalling the devastating floods and landslides of 2023 in districts like Mandi and Kullu, Nadda said, “I personally visited Himachal three times during the tragedies. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre released Rs 2,006 crore from the NDRF for the state’s rehabilitation.”
Nadda also highlighted that over 1 lakh houses have been sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and more than Rs 3,000 crore has been allocated for rural road development under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Himachal Pradesh.
Concluding his statement, the BJP president affirmed, “The people of Himachal Pradesh have full confidence that the Government of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will continue to stand firmly with them in times of need. As their representative at the Centre, I assure them of unwavering support.”
