Shimla, Feb 24,
In a continued crackdown on drug trafficking, the Shimla district police have detained another active drug peddler under the PIT NDPS Act, reinforcing their zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. The accused has been taken into custody under a preventive detention order and sent to jail for a period of three months.
The detained accused has been identified as Alias Sandy, a resident of Tehsil Chopal in Shimla district. According to official police records, he has been repeatedly involved in drug-related offences and has multiple cases registered against him under the NDPS Act.
Police said that an FIR registered on December 7, 2021, at Sadar Police Station, Shimla, under Sections 21 and 29 of the NDPS Act involved the recovery of approximately 26 grams of heroin (chitta) from the accused. In another case dated June 18, 2021, registered at Dhalli Police Station under the same sections, 11 grams of heroin was recovered. More recently, on March 17, 2025, an FIR under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered at Dhalli Police Station, where 2.170 grams of heroin was seized.
Officials stated that the detention has been carried out under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act, which allows authorities to detain habitual offenders involved in drug trafficking to prevent further illegal activities.
In a major enforcement drive, Shimla police have detained 22 habitual and organised drug traffickers in the past 28 days under similar detention orders, each sent to jail for three months. The police reiterated that the action reflects their sustained commitment to curbing the drug menace and ensuring a safer society, adding that strict measures will continue against those involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
