Kala Amb boiler blast: Response prevents major disruption, Rs 3 Crore hit to Glass unit
Sirmaur/Shimla, March 29
A potentially serious industrial disruption was averted in Kala Amb on Sunday after a boiler explosion at Him Safety Glass Industry caused significant damage but left all workers unharmed, except a few mior injuries.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. during routine production hours when a sudden technical fault in the boiler triggered a powerful blast. The impact was strong enough to dislodge the boiler’s upper metal section, which was thrown onto a nearby road, briefly creating alarm in the surrounding area.
Despite the intensity of the explosion, the situation remained firmly under control. Workers on the shop floor were immediately evacuated, and internal emergency protocols were activated without delay. No serious injuries were reported, with only minor scratches treated on-site.
Preliminary estimates peg the financial loss at over Rs 3 crore, largely due to damage to machinery and infrastructure. However, the absence of casualties and the prompt containment ensured that the incident did not escalate into a larger industrial shutdown or crisis.
Officials and local authorities reached the site soon after being informed and have begun assessing the technical cause behind the fault. Early indications suggest an isolated mechanical issue rather than any systemic concern.
The incident highlights how timely response systems and on-ground preparedness can play a decisive role in limiting damage, even in high-intensity industrial environments. In one of Himachal Pradesh’s busiest manufacturing clusters, Sunday’s event served as a test of response—and one that prevented what could have been a far more disruptive outcome.
