Kullu- Sojha accident: 4 Killed, 18 Injured as tourist Vehicle Plunges Off Road
Kullu/Shimla, April 5,
A tragic road accident near Jaloda Mod in the Sojha area of Banjar tehsil has left four people dead and 18 injured, showcasing the risks or concerns on narrow hill roads in Himachal Pradesh.
According to information received by the Police Control Room in Kullu, a tourist vehicle (registration number DL1BC 4958) veered off the road and fell into a gorge near Sojha. A total of 22 passengers—20 adults and two children—were on board at the time of the accident.
Casualties and Rescue
Officials confirmed that four persons—two men and two women—lost their lives on the spot. Eighteen others were rescued and rushed to the Civil Hospital in Banjar, where they are undergoing treatment. The condition of some injured passengers is reported to be serious.
The rescue operation was carried out swiftly through a coordinated effort involving the district administration, police, revenue officials, fire services, health department teams, and local residents. Eyewitnesses and villagers played a crucial role in reaching the accident site quickly and assisting in evacuating victims from the wreckage.
Authorities stated that search and verification operations are still underway to ensure no one remains trapped or unaccounted for.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined, though preliminary inputs suggest the vehicle may have lost control on a sharp bend—common in the Sojha stretch known for its steep gradients and blind curves.
This incident once again brings attention to the vulnerability of tourist vehicles navigating Himachal’s mountainous terrain, particularly in areas like Sojha that witness increased tourist movement during peak seasons. Questions around driver fatigue, vehicle fitness, and road conditions are likely to be examined as part of the investigation.
Further updates are awaited as authorities continue their probe.
