Two fresh cases of scrub typhus were confirmed at the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) on Monday, taking the total number of positive cases detected so far this season to three.
According to a press note issued by Dr. Rahul Rao of IGMC, nine samples were tested during the day. Of these, two were found positive for scrub typhus, while the remaining seven tested negative.
Hospital authorities said that a total of 38 samples have been examined so far, with three patients testing positive for the disease.
Doctors have advised people to remain cautious, stressing that prevention is the best defence against scrub typhus. They urged anyone experiencing fever, headache or body aches, particularly after visiting fields, bushes or forested areas, to seek medical attention at the nearest health institution without delay.
Health experts said that timely diagnosis and treatment can successfully cure scrub typhus and help prevent complications. They also appealed to the public to take preventive measures while working or travelling in areas where exposure to disease-carrying mites is possible.
