The month of July witnessed record rainfall after a gap of sixteen years as about six percent excessive monsoon was received in the month. The same took as many as 211 lives and loss to property tunes to Rs 632.48 Crore in the state .
Releasing monthly weather report for July-2021 here Shimla Met Office said that the state recorded accumulated 289.1 mm rain from July 1 to July 31 as compared to 273 mm normal. The State had six pc excessive rain viz a viz normal after a gap of 16 years.
Data from last twenty years suggests, that the state had recorded highest rainfall in this month in year 2005 when 309.3 mm rain( excess by seven pc) was recorded.
This year July, district Kullu received highest 90 pc excessive rainfall. The district had 327.6 mm rain in the month of Jul 2021 compared to 172.7 mm normal.
Kangra had 32 pc excess rain as district recorded 759.7 mm rain, whereby normal being 577.7 mm, followed by Hamirpur had 25 pc excess rain. District recorded 441.6 mm rain that of 352.9 mm normal, Bilaspur, Kinnaur, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una & Solan received normal rainfall, Chamba & Lahaul-Spiti received deficient rainfall.
State recorded highest maximum temperature of 42.50 degrees at Una on July 09, 2021
Eight major spells of rain
State had eight major spells of rain in the month as it recorded widespread rainfall on July 3 at Naina (Bilaspur) 66.4mm, Bangana (Una ) 41 mm,
Berthin :35 mm and Bilaspur 37 mm
Fairly wide spread on July 11 as Naina Devi (Bilaspur) had 180.6 mm, Renuka(Sirmaur)155 mm, Jatton Barrage(Sirmaur) 148.7 mm, Nahan(Sirmaur) 119.2 mm ,Bharari (Hamirpur) 104 mm, Hamirpur 98 mm and Kasauli(Solan):63.7 mm.Â
On July 12 wide spread rain spell at Dharamshala (Kangra) 303 mm( 184 mm and 119 mm) , Palampur 172 mm,Baijnath(kangra):105.0 mm,Jogindernagar(Mandi) 114.5 mm,Sarkaghat 70 mm,Narkanda (Shimla) 69.5mm, Kasauli (Solan) 67.9 mm
On July 13 rain recorded at Shahpur (kangra) 264 mm,Dharamshala 229.6 mm, Palampur 210 mm, Nagrotansuriyan (Kangra) 154.4 mm and Kangra 148.5 mm, Paonta sahib(Sirmaur 136 mmJatton Barrage(Sirmaur) 135.2 mm. Kheri (Chamba) 95.8 mm
On july 19, wide spread rain Palampur 230 mm, Dehra- Gopipur 184.5 mm,Ghamroor 164.8 mm, Sujanpur-tira(Hamirpur) 156.4 mm, Berthin (Bilasapur) 134.4 mm Dharmshala 120 mm,Jogindernagar 112 mm
July 20 wide spread rain at Shahpur (Kangra) 81.5 mm, Dalhousie (Chamba) 77 mm, Nadaun(Hamirpur) 76.5 mm,Annu 74 mm, Kangra 69.2 mm,Dehragopipur 63 mm and Dharamshala 60.4 mm
July 28 wide spread rain at Nalagarh (Solan) 105.8 mm, Dharmshala 101.4 mm, Mandi93 mm, Jatton Barrage 93 mm, Renuka / Dadhau (Sirmaur) :90 mm was recorded.
Jul 30 witnessed, wide spread rain at Mandi 98.5 mm, Sangraha(Sirmaur) 60 mm Bijahi(Mandi) 60 mm and Ponta-Sahib 47.4 mm.
Landslides and disaster caused by rain
Rainfall spell disaster on Jul 13th due to landslide at various places in the Kangra district Kangra(Dharamshala, Shahpur, Bajnath).
On 19th to -20th July due to heavy rain landslide at various places in the district Chamba (Balogi) & Kangra (Dehra).
On 25th July rain caused landslide at Batseri, Sangla in district Kinnaur. On Jul 27th to 28- due to heavy rain landslides at various places in the district Chamba, Kullu Lahaul-Spiti and on July 30th due to heavy rain a massive landslide was recorded at Ponta-Sahib blocking NH-707.
Deaths in the period
State recorded about 211 death during this period out of which 12 could not be traced. Death toll included of 108 due to rain related road accidents, 21 due to land slides, nine due to cloudbursts and flash flood, 19 due to drowning, two due to fire, seven due to snake bite, four due electrocution and 17 due to falling from roof and building and cliff and 13 lost life due to various other reasons.
438 animal died in the rain related incidents, 42 Pacca houses and 67 Kacha houses damaged in the rain64 pacca houses and 467 kacha damaged partly , 451 cowsheds and Eight shoops were damaged in the rain fury in the state.  Â
