The AICC has announced the appointment of two new working presidents in the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee. Sanjay Awasthi, who currently serves as the Chief Parliamentary Secretary and represents the Arki constituency in Solan district, has been selected for one of the coveted positions. Additionally, Chandershekhar, the only Congress member from Mandi district’s Dharmpur constituency, has been elevated to the role of working president.
These appointments come at a crucial time for the party, as they aim to strengthen their presence and leadership in the state. The vacancies fell vacant following the resignations of Harsh Mahajan in 2022 and Rajinder Rana, who recently stepped down from their respective posts. Notably, both former leaders have since joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), highlighting the dynamic political landscape in Himachal Pradesh.
The decision to appoint Awasthi and Chandershekhar was disclosed during a party state coordination committee meeting convened on Wednesday. The move underscores the AICC’s commitment to rejuvenating the state Congress unit and ensuring effective representation across various districts. With these new appointments, the party aims to consolidate its position and navigate the political landscape ahead of upcoming polls.
