Shimla, Aug 24
Former Union Minister and Congress working President Anand Sharma said today that he had apprised AICC chief Sonia Gandhi about the challenges before the party. He was given a patient hearing about the concerns, he informed.
Sharma, who offered resignation from the party state steering Committee, stated that he had assured the AICC chief that is ready to render services to the party leaders who are hardworking and dedicated to the ideology during these forthcoming assembly elections. Talking about his resignation, he reiterated that he left the party Committee over a reservation in a party’s internal matter, which he stated was between the AICC chief and him. He said he has been a party CWC member and with Congress for 52 years.
He said that he belonged to the party’s old school of thoughts which may not be comfortable with the party affairs, which he could raise before the AICC Chief. Sharma seemed a little perturbed and said that things sometimes pinch, and the party is duty bound to address the challenges posing its grandeur. The organisation must overcome this through internal deliberation. He said there was excitement among the party’s youth leadership who gave him a warm welcome on his return home after a long time.
Greeting JP Nadda, the BJP National President, for heading the ruling party he started rarely does a small state like Himachal Pradesh gets such significance in National politics.
Responding to a query about his bonhomie with Nadda, he said they both studied at the same University and are good friends. Responding to friction and serious abrasions in his party over a visit to Nadda’s residence, he responded that bitterness prevails in today’s power corridors as things are not in good taste.
He said that poltical leaders like Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, being opposition leaders and him as Union minister had cordial relations, even with other leaders of the Congress party, but unfortunately, things are not folding so nicely now, and the trust factor is missing in the present poltical milieu.
He said that BJP has failed to deliver in the Center as youth and common men are disillusioned by its governance and Congress party being an option could give the future leadership again. “But it couldn’t ignore challenges before, to could get its strength back again. He said that in democratic parties, leaders are free to take up matters within the party leadership which is much required for future growth.
Sharma, who is not happy and has shown serious reservations about things folding in the state units, however, avoided commenting on the state leadership and their work for the upcoming assembly election.
Sharma said that Himachal is home, being born here, is close to his heart, and he would serve in any capacity that the party leadership would expect. In the resignation letter submitted to the AICC chief Sharma expressed deep anguish and has created ripples in the state political circles.Â
Now his visit to the state is being given keen observation as he is being considered among the 23 AICC leaders group for holding party president polls.Â
