Shimla/Chandigarh, July 2,
The Indian Army’s Corps of Signals Dare Devils Team attempted a new world record by performing a high-risk motorcycle stunt inside the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, as part of its nationwide “Wheels of Valour: Sanchar Shakti” expedition dedicated to the upcoming Kargil Vijay Diwas.
According to a Defence Wing release issued by the Press Information Bureau on Thursday, the record attempt was carried out on July 1 after the expedition reached Palchan on June 30.
The feat involved 10 riders performing on just two motorcycles while covering the 9.8-km-long Atal Tunnel in 9 minutes and 47.97 seconds. The tunnel, situated at an altitude of 10,075 feet, is the world’s longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet.
The Army said the challenging attempt demanded exceptional precision, balance, endurance and teamwork under high-altitude conditions, reflecting the professionalism and operational excellence of the Corps of Signals.
The record attempt is the first in a series of world record initiatives planned by the Corps of Signals Dare Devils Team to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. The Army said the team had undergone months of intensive training, rehearsals and technical preparation before undertaking the feat.
The event was conducted under comprehensive safety arrangements in coordination with the district administration, Himachal Pradesh Police and road management agencies. All operational and safety protocols were strictly followed to ensure the safety of the riders, officials, support staff and commuters.
In a message issued after the event, Lieutenant General Vivek Dogra, Signal Officer-in-Chief and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Signals, thanked the Manali district administration, Himachal Pradesh Police, the Director General Border Roads, Project Yojak, Project Deepak and the 38 Border Roads Task Force for their support in successfully conducting the attempt.

Beyond the record attempt, the “Wheels of Valour: Sanchar Shakti” expedition is spreading the message of patriotism and national service through visits to war memorials, military establishments, educational institutions and interactions with veterans, NCC cadets and youth across the country.
The Army described the Atal Tunnel feat as a symbol of courage, discipline, innovation and teamwork, reinforcing the Corps of Signals’ commitment to remaining “Swift, Secure and Connected” while inspiring young Indians to uphold the values of duty, sacrifice and excellence.
