The Atal Rohtang tunnel recorded the highest traffic ever, on December 26, 2022. Around 19383, vehicles crossed on this day, last year. This was the maximum traffic recorded for a single day, since PM Narinder Modi innaugrated this engineering marvel.
Atal Tunnel Rohtang (ATR) is fast coming to good use for both, the strategic needs as well as for getting tourists easily in the tribal part of Himachal Pradesh.
A police Spokesperson said in a press release issued here that, in the year 2022, approximately 6,22,988 vehicles entered through Atal Tunnel Rohtang (ATR) into Lahaul valley and around 6,50,711 vehicles exit it. This makes it total of 12,73,699 vehicles during the year.
In 2021, the total vehicle which went to and fro this tunnel was 7, 99, 941. Around 3,76,870 vehicles entered the tribal district and around 4,23,071 vehicles came towards Manali through the ATR. The comparative indicates a increase of approximately 60 percent more traffic than last year. In number a increase of approximately 4.73 Lac vehicles in 2022.
In 2022, maximum traffic was observed in the months of June, December and May (in descending order), i.e. 2,25045, 2,02,974 and 2,11,824 respectively.
In the entire last year, a total of 16 days saw traffic of over 10,000 crossing the tunnel, with December having 6 such days.
The Police has faced a huge traffic influx since the opening of Atal Tunnel Rohtang, which is increasing day by day gradually.

However, the District Police of Lahaul & Spiti and Kullu districts have been up to the task and have worked around the year to regulate traffic smoothly without any laxity, they added.
