South West Monsoon likely to cause flash flood in some places of Himachal Pradesh, said state disaster management authority while issuing weather advisory. Spokesperson of SDMA Sudesh Mokata said in a press release issued here today that rainfall activity is likely to increase in intensity and spread in HP tonight through 9th and 10th July 2022 with widespread rainfall of moderate to heavy intensity in district Sirmaur, Solan, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Hamirpur, Kangra, Bilaspur and adjoining area including Shimla town.
Attributing the heavy rainfall to monsoon he warned that there is high probability of one or two spells of very heavy rainfall in parts of these district during this period.
Impacts may cause disruptions of traffic, landslides, increased runoff in nullah, rivers and other channels leading to flashfloods poor visibility conditions.
He advised the administration and general public to take adequate safety measures. As the intense rainfall activity increase is expected in night or early morning precaution be taken accordingly.
Light to moderate rainfall expected in high hills viz parts of Lahaul and Kinnaur district also. In last 24 hrs it was subdued as Nahan in Sirmour had 65 mm rainKotkhai of Shimla 22 mm, Kangra 18 mm and Shimla 13 mm.
Indian Meteorological department issued orange alert for Saturday and Yellow alert on Sunday . The Met Office also warned that Thunderstorm and Lightening likely at isolated places over plain, low and mid hills.
