Shimla, August 21
Several schools in Shimla were evacuated on Friday as a precautionary measure after a threatening email warned of a possible blast in the state capital, while a separate threatening communication regarding the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha has also prompted heightened security.
According to security officials, five to six schools were evacuated following the threat, with St Edward’s School, DAV and DPS Totu among the institutions where security measures were intensified. Police teams and security personnel conducted searches of the premises to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The threat email was forwarded to the Superintendent of Police, Shimla, by St Edward’s School. According to the communication available with the authorities, it was sent from an unidentified Gmail account with the subject “B00,MB Blast Shimla Schools @ 11:59AM”. The message specifically referred to schools in Shimla and contained references to Khalistan. It also called upon parents to protect their children.
The school threat comes against the backdrop of another bomb-related email concerning the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha. A communication forwarded to the Chief Secretary’s office had warned of a blast at the state Assembly at 3.11 pm. The message was subsequently circulated among senior officials for immediate necessary action, prompting security agencies to assess the threat and increase vigilance around the Assembly complex.
